Between Nothing
2026

Using an analogue camera, Noah Masengi captures what catches his eye in the city: unusual shapes, textures and materials. He pairs the photographs together. There is often a similarity in form, pattern or texture. These are traces of everyday life, of time passing and the transience of materials that he seeks to capture. All images have a sense of calm and contemplation, a certain slowness.

The same stillness is also present in the sculptures and drawings he creates. Sculptures made from everyday, insignificant materials. Such as the packing tape that merely wraps around an emptiness. Or the ribs of an umbrella, without the umbrella. Just like in the photographs, they are fragments that evoke a sense of melancholy. Of time passing, which one would actually like to hold on to. The repetition of forms also suggests that there is a larger story behind it all, a system that governs these patterns in the world and places them in his path as signals. Masengi explores these forms using various media and brings them together in an installation that encourages the visitor to view these things in a different light.
